Swedish supplier of rolled aluminium products Gränges became the latest member of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). By joining the standards association, Gränges will now seek certification against the ASI Performance Standard for or at least one facility or product line within two years.
Gränges’ CEO Johan Menckel highlighted the aims the company shares with ASI:
“In all things we do, we have a strong focus on sustainability as an integrated part of our business. We strive to minimise the environmental impacts of our operations, uphold ethical business practices and provide a safe and good work environment. Our technical expertise in material properties and performance helps customers and the whole value chain to improve its sustainability performance. We support ASI’s commitment to promote greater sustainability and transparency in the aluminium value chain.”
ASI is a worldwide organisation dedicated to setting industrial standards and certifications in the aluminium industry. The association attempts to bring together various stakeholders in the aluminium industry in order to achieve such objectives as sustainable production, material chain-of-custody procedures, recycling, production standards, and improving understanding of social impacts related to aluminium production.
Gränges’ geographical markets are Europe, Asia and the Americas. Its production facilities are located in Sweden, China and the United States, and have a combined annual capacity of 420,000 metric tonnes. Gränges employs some 1,600 people and boasts net sales of more than SEK 11 billion.
