Chinese automotive supplier Minth Automotive Europa has started work on a new aluminium car parts factory in Lozinca, western Serbia. The investment is worth €100 million and is scheduled to begin production as early as October.
The groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of the construction of Minth’s facility took place this Tuesday in the presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Director of Minth Automotive Europe Ching Li Wong, the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Ms Chen Bo, and Mayor of Loznica Vidoje Petrovic. The Chinese investor promised to build the facility in two stages and eventually provide 1,000 jobs in the area.
The new plant will manufacture aluminium roof base carriers, aluminium doorframes and car batteries for various carmakers including Volkswagen and Bentley, said the country’s president at the ceremony. Vucic also said that the move could encourage other auto parts manufacturers to consider Serbia when deciding where to build their new facilities.
Minth Automotive Europe – a member of the Chinese Minth Group – supplies car manufacturers, which make up over 80 per cent of the global automotive market. The group has more than 30 production plants in China, Thailand and Mexico, and exports its products around the world. In 2000, the European Commission introduced Autonomous Trade Measures for Serbia allowing almost all products originating from Serbia to enter the European Union without custom duties and quantitative restrictions.
