Iran, Conserva (FACE): “With the war, the aluminium supply chain is at risk, and it will also have effects on the prices of consumer goods”

“The current geopolitical situation is extremely serious and could place the European aluminium supply chain at significant risk, with potential repercussions on the prices of many everyday consumer goods,” said Mario Conserva, Secretary General of FACE, in the article published by Adnkronos.

Tensions in the Middle East are putting pressure on vital segments of the aluminium supply chain, a sector which in Europe generates around €40 billion in turnover and supports over one million jobs. The potential disruption of supplies from Gulf countries — which account for approximately 8% of global production — could have significant repercussions on the costs of finished products.

As highlighted by Conserva, the ongoing conflict and the logistical challenges linked to the region risk translating into price increases for consumer goods, with impacts that could extend to sectors such as packaging, transport, construction and industrial goods.

The supply chain is looking to the EU: “We call for pragmatism and immediate responsibility; the pace of bureaucracy is not compatible with the urgency of this crisis. Our dependence on external sources makes us too vulnerable. A complete suspension of any restrictions hindering access to primary aluminium is required, along with the immediate removal of import duties on raw metal,” the Secretary General stressed.
