Aluminium, FACE: “1.8 billion extra costs, European industry at breaking point”

FACE has raised concerns over the growing impact of import tariffs on unwrought aluminium on European industry. With LME prices approaching €4,000 per tonne, the additional burden on the European downstream sector could reach up to €1.8 billion per year.

According to Mario Conserva, Secretary General of FACE, maintaining duties on a raw material for which Europe imports more than 85% of its needs represents a major competitive disadvantage, now worsened by geopolitical tensions, high energy costs and growing scrap exports outside the EU.

FACE calls for an immediate change of course: removing duties on unwrought aluminium is an essential step to strengthen competitiveness, industrial resilience and the security of the European supply chain.
