The European aluminium market and possible reactions to the conflict in the Middle East

Tensions in the Middle East are affecting not only geopolitics, but also the stability of the global aluminium supply chain. In the new editorial published in A&L Alluminio e Leghe, Mario Conserva, Secretary General of FACE, analyses the risks linked to the conflict in the Gulf region and the possible consequences for the European aluminium market.

Europe, increasingly dependent on imports of primary metal, is now exposed to the logistical challenges affecting the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, with direct impacts on costs, delivery times and security of supply.

According to FACE, the central issue is no longer only the price of metal, but the resilience of the supply chain: diversification of sources, security of logistics flows and strategic stock management are becoming essential elements to guarantee operational continuity and competitiveness for the European aluminium industry.
