The outlook for aluminium is positive, but the EU must finally address the issues at hand
Aluminium is a strategic material for global industry, but Europe can no longer afford to ignore the challenges threatening the competitiveness of its value chain.
In the latest editorial published in A&L Alluminio e Leghe, Mario Conserva, Secretary General of FACE, examines the sector’s key challenges: from geopolitical tensions reducing the availability of primary metal, to rising demand for scrap and recycled aluminium, as well as the unresolved issues surrounding energy, raw material supply and industrial policy.
Despite a positive outlook for the aluminium market, Europe must decisively address the decline in primary production, strengthen recovery and recycling, manage import-export flows more effectively, and implement concrete solutions to the energy challenge. The future competitiveness of the European aluminium value chain will depend on its ability to turn these challenges into opportunities.
