Restrictions on primary aluminium imports would irreversibly damage the EU downstream aluminium industry
As preparations are ongoing for the EU’s 14th package of sanctions on Russia, and we notice the continuation of misleading public calls for bans and biased messages on the effects of potential extension of such measures in the aluminium sector, we would like to share, on top of previous letters, a presentation on what we fear would be disastrous consequences of further aluminium sanctioning that would harm the EU aluminium industry as a whole.
The downstream sector would be severely damaged and such damage would reverberate on the upstream value-chain, as the remaining European producers of raw aluminium sell more than 90% of their production to regional EU downstream clients.
