Mario Conserva (FACE): US tariffs and risks for Europe
The recent trade developments between the United States and the European Union mark a critical turning point for Europe’s industrial future. The new US tariffs – reaching up to 50% on aluminium, steel and copper – could severely impact Europe’s competitiveness, with estimated annual losses of around €70 billion.
This is not just a tariff issue: it highlights the urgent need to rethink Europe’s economic and industrial strategy. To safeguard growth and resilience, the EU must act swiftly to strengthen the Single Market, reduce dependence on imported raw materials, and stimulate internal growth, with a focus on productivity, competitiveness, energy, and environmental sustainability.
