Aldel Reopens Potline Idle For Six Years

The Dutch company Aldel announced the reopening of a potline after a six-year long closure. The company returns to the European aluminium industry following the purchase of the business by York Capital in 2017 and plans to move towards full production by the end of this year.

Aldel – located in Delfzijl in the northeast of the Netherlands – cited strong support from customers and suppliers as the reason for its return to the market.

As part of its on-going capital investment programme, the company is investing in new equipment and is looking to hire new employees to reach a total of 300 people directly employed on-site once at full production capacity.

Alusuisse opened the Abdel plant in 1966. It is the only remaining aluminium smelter in the Netherlands and serves as a key supplier in the European supply chain. York Capital purchased the plant in November 2017 and made significant investments to return the plant to its original production levels. The plant has a full annual capacity of 150,000 tonnes of extrusion billets and rolling ingots.
