The new “Golden Road”: implementing the IMEC amidst geopolitical upheavals
In a context marked by geopolitical tensions, energy crises and fragile trade routes, the implementation of the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is a strategic priority for Europe and for the aluminium industry.
As highlighted by Roger Bertozzi, President of FACE and Chair of the MENA2050 IMEC Task Force, in the article published in A&L Magazine, this project is not just about infrastructure, but a true pillar of economic security and strategic autonomy.
IMEC can fundamentally reshape the value chain: safer, faster and more sustainable trade routes; increased investment and trade flows between Europe, the Gulf and India; growing aluminium demand driven by infrastructure, transport and digitalisation.
At the same time, the Corridor offers a concrete pathway towards more competitive and decarbonised production, also supported by the development of “New Nuclear” and new energy infrastructure.
In an increasingly fragmented world, inaction would mean missing a historic opportunity.
IMEC is far more than a logistics corridor: it is a strategic backbone for growth, stability and cooperation across continents.
