German carmaker Audi’s Münchsmünster production site – specialised in manufacturing form-hardened sheet steel elements and diecast aluminium components for lightweight construction – celebrated its five-year anniversary and highlighted its future priorities for sustainability and biodiversity.
The Münchsmünster facility – situated near Ingolstadt in Bavaria – opened in 2013 and currently employs 900 people working across three shifts. The facility has been ramping up production over the past few years, hitting an output of some 25 million vehicle components last year in its three production areas – the structural components shop, the chassis modules shop, and the press shop.
Münchsmünster’s giant aluminium diecasting systems are in operation round the clock making key components for models of the Audi, VW, Bentley and Lamborghini brands. Within its chassis modules shop, four lines are producing cast aluminium wheel carriers and forged aluminium swivel bearings.
Looking into the future, Audi underlined its focus on suitability both in Münchsmünster and at its other facilities. The automaker is investing into efficient practices to reduce its energy consumption while running at full capacity. Moreover, Audi is constructing a new 1,000 square meters recycling centre at the site, where all waste will be collected and sorted.
