Amsterdam-based aluminium semi-products producer Constellium N.V. announced this Monday the expansion of its plant in Singen, Germany. The firm will install an additional aluminium extrusion press to meet the demand of its automotive customers in Europe.
Constellium plans to dedicate 8,000 square metres for a new plant hall and launch the new extrusion press in mid-2020. The expansion is expected to create 50 addition jobs at the Singen facility in southern Germany.
“Extrusions are the foundation of our Automotive Structures product portfolio,” said Paul Warton – president of Constellium’s Automotive Structures and Industry Business Unit.
“As our business continues to grow, Singen has become a diverse provider of complex, high-strength extrusions of all sizes, shapes, strengths and gauges for our automotive programs, as well as our rail, transportation and industrial customers. This new press increases not only capacity, but advances our efficiency and capability.”
The Signen plant has been in service for over 100 years and features modern equipment for producing extrusions on five presses, including a 100 MN press – the largest in Western Europe. The facility is the principal extrusions supplier for Constellium’s Automotive Structures business in Europe. It also produces large profile extrusions for rail, power rail and bus applications, as well as other transportation and industry markets.
